Female Wasp Spider

This wasp spider was found on the grass bank of the mere on the beach-side along the sandy path of the dunes. The female is very large with those black and yellow stripes and much bigger than the male. The female will eat the male if he is not careful and it is a tricky time for the male when mating. Once the female has her eggs ready she builds a globe spun from her body and encloses the eggs in the globe that is suspended in the long grass, and in time the globe hardens to protect the eggs as they develop into little offspring ready for the next generation.
