Red Deer – Females

The red deer females in this photo were in the reed beds ready to go into the water for a cooling off and a drink, they are part of a herd of about twenty deer on RSPB Minsmere Reserve with a stag that is often seen early in the year and then in the autumn when the rutting season starts. They wander all over the site and are often found in the woodland area but also in the reed beds and they can be seen swimming across the marshes from one part of the site to the other, stopping on an island for a feed up on fresh grass or young reed shoots.
