Firecrest

A very shy timid little bird with a beautiful eye stripe and brilliant green plumage. It likes woodland areas and rhododendron bushes and moves so quickly that it's hard to see at the best of times. One of our smallest birds in the U.K along with the gold crest. Eats insects and likes to pick out moth eggs which they find under the leaves of the trees and bushes.

This photograph was used by RSPB Minsmere on their web site in their monthly reports on sightings of different birds.

Latin

Regulus ignicapillus (Sylviidae)
